A missed lead-up opportunity isn't expected to hinder the winning chances of Sassy 'N' Smart on her home track on Saturday.

The precocious Matamata filly is set to resume in the Prima Park 1200, a race that will set her up for a crack at a Group One double.

"She was to have gone to the trials at Te Aroha, but unfortunately they were cancelled," said Jamie Richards, who prepares the youngster with Stephen Autridge.

"She has done plenty of work at home and while she will improve, class will take her a long way. She is a lovely filly."

Sassy 'N' Smart won both her starts at Riccarton in the spring with a minimum of effort before she was put aside.

"We'll look at the Matamata Breeders' Stakes with her and then the two Group Ones, the Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie and the Sires' Produce at Awapuni," Richards said.

Michael McNab rode Sassy 'N' Smart on debut and he will be reunited with the daughter of Smart Missile with stable jockey Matt Cameron committed to the Wellington meeting.

Autridge and Richards will also have strong hands in the open handicaps with Silverdale in the Waharoa Transport Ltd 1600 and Chambord in the Norwood Farm Machinery 1200.

"Silverdale looks good and he's been working well," Richards said. "He's a funny horse though and needs to be held up for one run."

The six-year-old finished a last-start eighth in the Gr.2 Rich Hill Mile after beginning awkwardly.

Chambord returned from a lengthy injury break at Hastings and has understandably benefited from the outing.

"He's looking good and his work's been pretty sharp," Richards said. "He's improving and he should be running a strong race." – NZ Racing Desk.
