The connections of Hiflyer are looking to the future with their call to spell the talented three-year-old.
"It was a hard decision to make for the owners and myself because we have to miss the good three-year-old races and he did look like getting black type," trainer Peter Lock said.
"He's a late foal and he's still weak and immature so he's gone to the paddock and we'll have him back for the autumn."
Runner-up on debut in the spring, Hiflyer broke his maiden at his next start and at his last appearance during the Christmas carnival at Ellerslie he again charged home for a close second.
"In all my years of racing I've never seen a horse get home in the last 200 metres like he can," Lock said.
"He's got a bit of strengthening to do and it's a scary thought as to how good he could be. I'm pretty confident he's going to be a Group One horse."
Meanwhile, Lock is planning a trip to the central districts next month in the hope of adding black type to Moccona Mist's record.
A three-time winner, she finished runner-up behind the Group One winner Pondarosa Miss at her most recent appearance.
"The Wairarapa Breeders' Stakes looks an ideal race for her," Lock said. "She had 10 days in the paddock to freshen her up after her last run."
