An early morning trip to Auckland on Wednesday may prove the key to a Waikato stable plundering two plum prizes at Ellerslie at the weekend.

Cambridge trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young took the opportunity to give their Listed Karaka Million hope Caorunn and their Listed NZB Insurance Karaka 3YO Mile candidate Tavago a midweek gallop on the course ahead of Sunday's meeting.

"They went hard up against the rail and it will make a big difference now that both of them have had a good look around," Busuttin said.

"They had a working gallop over 1000 metres and both horses went super. We very much appreciate the Auckland Racing Club letting us gallop them."

Part-owned by Busuttin, Caorunn was an early qualifier for the Million after a debut second at Ruakaka and an Otaki victory in the spring.

He then beat race rival Showmeyamoneyhoney at Awapuni in December and won a trial on his home track earlier this month.

Tavago, whose half-brother (Lot 55) by Ocean Park will be offered by Cambridge Stud at Karaka next Monday, is also lightly-tried and he too won at his home trial meeting after an impressive spring victory in the Gr.3 Wellington Stakes.

"He's a smart horse and he will run very well," Busuttin said.

The stable also has high hopes for Predator, a dominant winner of his first start at Taupo, in the Hallmark Stud Mile. - NZ Racing Desk.
