Softly, softly approach with Australian prospect

A trip across the Tasman later in the year is on the agenda for the lightly-raced Group One performer Sound Proposition.

But in the meantime, trainers Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott are happy to take things quietly with last season's New Zealand Derby placegetter.

The Savabeel gelding has only raced once since he finished third in the classic behind Mongolian Khan and Volkstock'n'barrell, running third when resuming at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

"He went really well after such a long time away," O'Sullivan said. "It was very encouraging and we'll concentrate on going through his grades.

"A race like the Easter Handicap might suit him and next season is really what we're looking at – Andrew and I have talked about it and long-term Australia is the plan with him.

"He's still an immature type of horse and time is all he needs."

The stable also has another promising young prospect in Glass Slipper, who will run in this weekend's Listed Karaka Million.

A debut placing at Te Rapa and a third behind Sunday's pre-post favourite Manolo Blahniq in the Gr.3 Eclipse Stakes resulted in her taking the 14th and final spot in the field.

"She's still got a lot of growing to do and she will be a better three-year-old," O'Sullivan said.

"But she is a lovely filly and she's showed she can run the sectional times to be competitive. She'll need a bit of luck with the draw too - it can be a mad dash."

Waikato Stud will sell a half-brother (Lot 867) by Rock 'N' Pop to Glass Slipper during the Select Sale at Karaka on January 27. – NZ Racing Desk.
