Krishna Mudhoo is the latest young rider to benefit from Kevin Myers' continued willingness to support apprentices.
He won the Reefton Cup last Wednesday aboard Overtheriver for the Wanganui trainer and on Saturday he completed a feature race double in the Vernon & Vazey Truck Parts Kumara Gold Nuggets on the stablemate Duffers Creek.
"It was a good ride by Krishna and the race was made for the horse with him able to claim three kilos," Myers' stable representative Ken Harrison said.
In the following event, Mudhoo completed a winning double on the West Coast course when he continued his successful association with Overtheriver in the NZ Panels Group Sprint.
Born in Mauritius, the 22-year-old spent some time at the South African apprentice academy before he came to New Zealand to link up with Karen and John Parsons' yard on the encouragement of fellow stable apprentice Goson Jogoo.
He took Duffers Creek, who was third in the race last year, to the front and they kicked on far too well for Electronic Motion and Capo.
Youth was to the fore in the supporting events at Kumara with apprentice Danielle Hirini posting a hat-trick of winners aboard the Mike Breslin-trained trio of Tarihira, Special Bid and Wafer.
Her deeds completed a memorable four days for the 22-year-old, who rode her first winner at Reefton last Wednesday aboard Transome, also for Breslin. – NZ Racing Desk.
