Andrew Carston is guaranteed a runner in the country's richest race, but he won't confirm his position until the weekend.

The Riccarton trainer is playing a wait and see game with his Listed Karaka Million hopeful What Choux Want, who will face the biggest test of her career on Saturday.

"She's staying with Stephen Marsh at Cambridge and she travelled up well," Carston said.

"We're safely in the field, but I want to see how she goes right-handed at Ellerslie first."

What Choux Want will make her northern debut in the Countdown to Karaka Million 1200 and her home track performances suggest she will be a force to be reckoned with.

She was successful on debut to credit her sire Jimmy Choux with his first winner and the filly has subsequently finished runner-up to the highly-regarded Te Akau two-year-old Sassy 'N' Smart.

"At her first start she beat Dontpokethetiger, who has since been stakes placed twice, so the form around her is good," Carston said.

"She will improve a great deal with the run as well – she had two weeks off after her last race at Riccarton and she hasn't had a trial.

"In saying that, I'm happy with her and we'll get a good line on Saturday as to where we stand."

Out of the stakes performer Bankside Belle, What Choux Want was purchased by Carston at Karaka last year on behalf of the Saric family.

"They are from Sydney and have got a couple of horses with me," he said. "Like everyone's dream, she was bought with the Karaka Million as a target so we'll see how we go after Saturday." – NZ Racing Desk.
