Leith Innes leads the inaugural FastTrackinsurance Christmas Carnival Jockey Premiership after the first day of the three-day promotion was completed at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

While Innes shared honours on the day with Opie Bosson as both scored three individual wins, a victory aboard Kawi in the Gr. 1 Zabeel Classic saw Innes snatch double points in that race to finish the day with a total of 4 points. Bosson is one point adrift with 3 while Mark Du Plessis and Samantha Collett both sit on 2 points.

The points system sees a winning jockey pick up two points for a black type race victory and one point for winning any other race during the three days of the promotion which will continue at Ellerslie on Monday the 28th of December and conclude on the 1st of January. At the conclusion of racing on the 1st of January, the jockey with the highest number of points will be presented with a winning cheque for $2,500.

Jockeys have also been asked to nominate a charity to ride for and should they take out the Jockey Premiership, their charity will also receive $2,500. Innes has Starship as his nominated charity with Bosson riding for Ronald McDonald House.

The TAB will take wagering on the series and currently have Bosson as the $2.60 favourite after his first day performance. Innes sits at $3 with Matt Cameron (1 point) third favourite at $6. – NZ Racing Desk
