Let Me Roar wins on debut at Rotorua

The Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman stable unleashed another promising type when well bred filly Let Me Roar produced a convincing display to win on debut at Rotorua.
The half sister by Rip Van Winkle to Gr. 1 Victoria Derby winner Lion Tamer was confidently expected to produce a good performance in the Millennium Hotel Rotorua 3YO (1215m) but not many expected the win to be achieved with such deceptive ease.
Only moderately away from her inside barrier draw, Let Me Roar was quickly sent forward to dispute the pace by rider Opie Bosson before settling into a trailing position. Angled into the clear by Bosson as they approached the home bend the filly quickly put the issue beyond doubt as she bounded away to score easing down by just under two lengths in 1.11.25 for the journey.
Co-trainer Andrew Forsman was suitably impressed by the performance as he contemplated the path ahead for the filly.
"We think a fair bit of her as she had shown plenty at home and when she won her trial at Te Aroha," he said.
"It's a different proposition on raceday though and she had to work hard for this one as she wasn't that quickly away and did plenty of work early on.
"Opie came back in and said she still had a few gears left so that's always nice to hear."
Forsman was cautious about where to head with the filly preferring to let the dust settle on the win before making any further plans.
"They are only three once and while she obviously has potential she is still very green with it," he said.
"I think we will go home and see how she comes through race before we think too much further ahead. You don't get that many opportunities with them at this age so you want to make the most of it but at least we do know we have something fairly exciting to work with."
The victory by Let Me Roar will undoubtedly create further interest in Lot 376 at the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale Series, a full sister who will be presented to the sale through the draft of Let Me Roar's owners, Windsor Park Stud. - NZ Racing Desk
