Popular 3YO ready for return

Ina Canta has earned his share of admirers in a short space of time.

The three-year-old has only raced once, but he has changed hands twice already and is now ready to resume his fledgling career.

Providing he draws well, he will step out at Ellerslie on Sunday for Te Awamutu horseman Brendon Hawtin in the Brookby Stables 1200.

Originally purchased at Karaka for $37,500 by Gary Vile on behalf of a syndicate of owners, Ina Canta was a debut winner at Trentham in January from the Awapuni trainer's yard.

Following that performance he was bought with a view to joining Paul O'Sullivan's team in Hong Kong.

"He ended up at Wexford Stables with Lance (O'Sullivan) and Andrew (Scott) and then one of Stuart Hale's clients bought him," Hawtin said.

Hale, a Cambridge-based bloodstock agent, is managing a quartet of horses currently in work with Hawtin.

"He's a lovely horse and the Per Incantos are going well," Hawtin said. "I've had a good talk with Gary Vile about him – he reckons he's a pretty good horse.

"We took him to Matamata for a jump-out three weeks ago and he's quite forward. He's quite a hard horse to get a line on, but Gary told me he only does what he has to on the training track." – NZ Racing Desk.
