Cambridge trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman have a smart galloper on their hands in the form of lightly-tried four-year-old Rhinestone Cowboy.
The Teofilo gelding made it three wins from four starts when successful in the Paul Ireland Digger Hire 1600m at Otaki on Friday, despite racing three-wide for much of the race.
“It was a very good win today,” Baker said. “I think potentially he’s a very good horse.”
Raced by Lindsay de Souza, Willie Leung and Neville Murdoch, Rhinestone Cowboy is now likely to go for a spell after a three-start spring campaign.
“He’s likely to go for a small break,” Baker said.
“He has been a work-in-progress and hopefully the patient approach will pay dividends. I think he will have no problems getting up over 2000m and even further and he is an exciting prospect.” – NZ Racing Desk
