Leading trainer Adam Durrant continued his dominance of the Listed Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m) at Ascot when Pinzu (NZ) (Pins) stormed home to win first-up today.
Ridden by Bunbury-born star Damian Lane, Pinzu charged home from fifth on the turn to beat In Love With Paris (Rogano) by half a length. Heart Starter (Domesday) was third.
Durrant won the feature for the fourth time.
“He’s not a sound horse,” Durrant said of Pinzu.
“He’s had a few little issues with his feet but he’s certainly pretty effective on his day.
“We thought today was his day.
“I was a bit concerned that he didn’t settle a bit earlier and that might take away a bit of his kick, which it probably did, but he was still good enough to hold on.”
Lane said: “I just missed in the first two but it was good to get this one up. I was pretty confident when I was following the favourite and I thought I had him covered.” –The West Australian
