When Little Avondale Stud’s Sam Williams showed a breeze-up by another son of Per Incanto to trainer Leticia Dragon, the deal was sealed right away.
The brown gelding reminded Dragon a lot of another Per Incanto she looked after all too briefly – Per Incharge, a promising three-year-old who won two races for Dragon, and even represented her in the Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint (1200m), beaten by Be Bee by only four lengths.
Unfortunately, Per Incharge died of bowel complications shortly after he was a resounding winner in a Class 4 Premier race over 1400m in April.
Dragon bought the new Per Incanto out of Dexter mare Sirca Dane from Williams, hoping the uncanny resemblance with Per Incharge will not be just in terms of looks.
But what stumped her even more was when the registration papers of the gelding named as Gentlemen Agreement came out.
“They already looked so alike, and then my hair stood on end when I saw his brand – H269. Per Incharge was E269!” said Dragon.
“I can only hope he become as good as Per Incharge, who was a very good horse I bought at the New Zealand Ready-To-Run after he was passed in.
“He even ran in a Group race for me. Unfortunately, he passed away after he had some colic issues, but the real cause has remained a mystery.
“So far, Gentlemen Agreement has done everything right on the tracks. He trialled very good (October 30).
“He’s running in the Novice race over 1200m on Sunday. He will run against some smart horses like Mach, and I hope he goes all right.
“He is raced by an owner who is making a comeback in racing, the owner of the famous Samy’s Curry.”
Gentlemen Agreement will be ridden by Singapore Gold Cup-winning jockey Benny Woodworth and will jump from barrier No 2 in the $85,000 Novice race over 1200m on Sunday. -STC
