Trainer Darren Weir is hopeful Kiwi filly Verry Elleegant can settle better in Thursday’s Gr.1 Kennedy Oaks (2500m) at Flemington to give her every chance to win the three-year-old feature.
“She doesn’t help herself,” Weir said following the filly’s fifth placing in Saturday’s Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m).
“She gallops with a high head-carriage, which makes it very hard on herself and hard for the jockey.
“I thought it was still a good enough run to push on to the Oaks on Thursday, so hopefully she has a good four days and races a bit more tractably in the Oaks.”
