Last-start runner-up Eridani went one better at Waipa on Wednesday to secure her maiden victory in the Waipa Home of Champions (1150m).
That last-start effort resulted in the three-year-old filly jumping away as a $2.70 favourite and she won accordingly under jockey Danielle Johnson, beating Dublin Rose by one and three-quarter lengths with a further two and a quarter lengths back to Gocara.
“Track conditions were the only worry,” trainer Stephen Marsh said. “She went to a Dead6 at Hawke’s Bay and sort of floundered around on that. But race one today on a nice day, we thought we’re going to get the best of it, so we’ll have a crack.
“She is stronger this preparation. Her last start was very good at Taupo and she didn’t need to improve much to be hard to beat here.
“She’s certainly a filly on the way up and one you can follow.”
