Trainer Nigel Tiley is pleased with high class three-year-old Melt and is looking forward to the challenge in Saturday’s Gr.2 Sacred Falls Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m), which has attracted a strong field of 16 runners.

Group One-placed at two, Melt has won both of her starts this season including an impressive victory in the Gr.3 Northland Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) at Ruakaka last month.

“I’m really happy with her,” Tiley said. “Those first few runs have really brought her on.

“They were relatively soft runs. She had good barrier draws and last start she got a nice run through.

“She hasn’t had a lot of pressure put on her, so I think the trip down to Hawke’s Bay will tighten her up nicely. Bring it on, I’m looking forward to it.”

Tiley said he expected Melt to be midfield in Saturday’s contest, for which the daughter of Iffraaj has drawn barrier 9.

Melt is $4.50 second favourite for the Gr.1 gavelhouse.com New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m), while she is also the $8 second favourite for the Gr.1 Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m).
