Natalie Young, who trains in partnership with Trent Busuttin, was thrilled with the first-up effort of Sully who finished fifth over 1400m at Flemington on Saturday although she was kicking herself at the same time.
“Maybe taking the bubble cheeker off today was a mistake,” she said.
“All he wanted to do in the straight was lay in but once Regan (Bayliss) got the whip in his left hand he was great though the line”.
Young said the four-year-old son of Reliable Man has done everything right so far this campaign and will head to a 1700m race at Caulfield before using the Listed Cranbourne Cup (2025m) on October 14 as a spring launching point.
