Expat Kiwi trainer Paul O’Sullivan has been dealt a savage blow with the sudden death of his Hong Kong Derby prospect Win Beauty Win on Monday.
The son of Makfi was returning from the swimming pool when he spooked and ran into a fence.
“Part of the fence cut into an artery on the inside of his back leg and he bled to death,” O’Sullivan told www.hkwinningfactor.com.
“The guy leading him was very experienced, he didn't make any mistakes or do anything wrong but he's terribly upset about it. It wasn't his fault at all, it was just one of those crazy, awful things."
Hong Kong Jockey Club veterinarians were on the scene immediately but were unable to save the horse's life.
A New Zealand-bred four-year-old that had won four of his seven starts, Win Beauty Win was a horse O’Sullivan believed was the most promising in his stable and was destined to be competitive on the international stage.
