Trainer Lance O’Sullivan has reported quality stayer Charles Road has come through his first-up effort in the Gr.2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m) in good fashion and will now head to Hastings for an open handicap over a mile on September 1.
The Gr.2 Chairman’s Quality (2600m) winner finished tenth in the Foxbridge Plate where he made up good ground over the concluding stages.
“We were very pleased with him in the Foxbridge Plate,” O’Sullivan, who trains in partnership with Andrew Scott, said.
“He is a stayer resuming and I was probably surprised that he finished as close as he did to them. He certainly finished a few lengths closer than what I expected.
“We will bypass the Tarzino Trophy and run him in the mile handicap on the same day at Hawke’s Bay. It is the path we took with Willie Cazals a couple of years ago and it worked successfully for us with him winning the Livamol Classic.”
