The Chris Waller-trained Kaonic, a four-year-old entire by Savabeel, made it back to back wins at Randwick on Saturday and will now be set for the A$1 million Gr.1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) on September 29.
“It was a good win,” Waller said. “He is obviously a progressive horse.
“He almost threw it away a couple of times over the last 200m. I just think that just shows the horse is still a bit raw. He is definitely looking for a mile, so I think when we get him up to that extra distance he will be a bit more effective.
Winning jockey Hugh Bowman said Kaonic had shown genuine Group ability on the training track and was starting to put it together on the racetrack.
