Canterbury jockey Samantha Wynne will miss the majority of the season after having an operation on her anterior cruciate ligament earlier this week.

The 30-year-old rider suffered the knee injury in a fall at Wingatui in May.

“I had an operation on Monday and all went well,” Wynne said. “But they have told me it will be 10 months of recovery, so that was a bit gutting.

“I completely ruptured my knee. I had to wait for my medial cruciate ligament to heal before I had the ACL surgery, so it was very unlucky.

“It looks like I am going to miss the season, so I am going to have to put my mind to other things that keep me busy.”

A native of Ireland, Wynne made the move to New Zealand in 2012 and has ridden 284 winners, including six stakes victories.
