Woodville trainer Shane Brown is planning a long-range stakes mission with his promising five-year-old mare Rayas, who will resume at Waverley on Saturday.
A winner of four of her 11 starts, Rayas has had three black-type starts and was runner-up in the Gr.3 Wellington Stakes (1600m) at Otaki two years ago and now Brown believes she can take the next step up the ladder.
He has pencilled-in the Gr.3 Rich Hill Stud Taranaki Breeders Stakes (1400m) at Hawera on October 13 for the Rip Van Winkle mare.
“She had a run at the Foxton trials (August 1) and she’s set to kick off in the rating 82 1100m at Waverley,” Brown said. “Then if all is well, she’ll run at Hastings on the second day then we’ll look at the fillies and mares race at Hawera.
“She’s a good mare and she is coming up well.”
