Canterbury apprentice jockey Kin Kwo has undergone surgery after suffering a broken jaw from a track incident at Riccarton on Wednesday.

“It happened at the track after he fell off a horse,” trainer and Kwo’s riding master Neill Ridley said. “He broke his jaw, so he’ll be out for a few weeks.

“We went to the 24 hour medical centre and then they moved him on to hospital. They kept him in overnight and operated on him the next morning. He’s meant to be out today.”

The 23-year-old apprentice has had his best season to date, riding home 18 winners, with his mounts accruing nearly $300,000 in stakes.
