The Sean Cameron-trained Amun Ra was impressive when scoring by four lengths in the Onceuponatime Mile (1600m) at Phar Lap Raceway on Friday.
The Ustinov gelding jumped away well and was kept on the pace by jockey Terry Moseley. The six-year-old chestnut was taken up to eyeball leader Stumblin In at the turn of the straight before running away from his opposition.
“Terry took bad luck out of the equation and he ran very well,” Cameron said.
“The horse can get to the front and pull itself up a bit, but I watched a video from Wingatui where he hit the front early. I told Terry you have just got to keep at him.”
Amun Ra could back-up as soon as next week depending on how he pulls up after today’s run.
“There’s a (rating) 72 1800m at Christchurch next week, so we’ll see how he comes through this and we might go there because the track is going to be good at the moment.”
