Former New Zealand apprentice Hairi Marzuki has undergone two operations in Singapore following a race fall at Kranji on Sunday evening.
The 31-year-old came to grief aboard Chariots Of Fire in a 1200m race and has suffered serious head injuries.
Marzuki, who rides in Singapore under the christian name Khalid, rode 19 winners here for Stephen Marsh and subsequently transferred his apprenticeship in May to the Cambridge trainer’s father Bruce.
“They operated on him on Sunday and then had to operate again at 3am this morning and they’re happier now,” Bruce Marsh said.
“It was to relieve bleeding on the brain. He’s a little bit conscious when they’re turning him in bed and his family are around him.
“I went up to see him and the family, who are very close knit, and he will be heavily sedated for some time, I would think.” – NZ Racing Desk.
