Perswayed prompted an early family celebration at Rotorua on Wednesday.
Successful on debut in the Arawa Park Lounges For You Function Maiden (1230m), the three-year-old was ridden by Cameron Lammas for his wife Tracey, who trains the three-year-old on the course.
“He’d only had one trial and won it, but I thought it would be too heavy and too short for him today,” the successful jockey said.
“He’s a big, strong horse and got through it. I could have led on him, but I wanted to teach him a bit more back in the field.”
Perswayed settled midfield after being a shade slow away and finished stoutly to down the favourite Ifnot Wainot to make a perfect start to his career.
