Two-year-old Per Incanto filly Trilli showed the benefit of raceday experience when winning the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1000m) at Sandown on Wednesday.

Trained by Jason Warren and sporting the colours of Little Avondale Stud, Trilli peeled off the back of runner-up Sweet Rockette to win by a length in the hands of Jake Noonan.

Trilli had previously had the one start when beaten into third at Sale last month behind Propelle and subsequent winner Cavalini.

“She’s definitely come on from that first run and when you look back at that form it looks pretty strong,” Noonan said. “We had something to follow today, which probably helped.

“I was really adamant that she wanted a bit of soft ground the other day. You could just see that when I went for her on top of that firmish ground, she just climbed a little bit. My first assessment was that if she could find a track with a bit of sting out of it, it’s going to suit.

“It’s a Good4 today, but it’s on the softer side and they’re getting their toe into it and I think she appreciated that.

“I’ve really liked her from day one and I think she will measure up and go through her grades. I think she will go on with it as a three-year-old too.”

Street Cry stallion Per Incanto, who resides at the Williams family’s Little Avondale Stud in Masterton, continues to be a ready source of quality runners. Trilli became the stallion’s 118th winner from 204 starters while the Group One producing sire operates at 5.4% stakes winners to runners.  – NZ Racing Desk
