Max will be seen out over the smaller fences next when he runs in the Manawatu ITM Awapuni Hurdles (2900m) on Saturday week.
Trainer Raymond Connors has made the switch with the last-start Waikato Steeplechase (3900m) winner to avoid a clash with stablemate Wise Men Say in the Manawatu Steeplechase (4400m).
Connors said Max would revert to steeplechasing at his following start in the Animal Health Direct Hawke's Bay Steeples (4800m) at Hastings on June 30.
