Wet track specialist No Need will kick off a new campaign at the Auckland meeting at Te Rapa on Sunday.
“He won very well at the trials and he should go well fresh-up over 1200m,” Somervell said.
“He’ll run out of his grade, but he will get in with a light weight.”
An open 935m heat winner at Cambridge earlier this month, all five of No Need’s career successes have come on heavy tracks.
The son of No Excuse Needed will be ridden by Matt Cameron in the Celebrating Melt Handicap (1200m).
