Trainer Chris Waller is hoping his faith in the lightly raced Kiwi-bred Omineca pays off in the Gr.3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Doomben on Saturday.
“He’s only had four race starts this horse. He’s a really good horse, it is not like us to step up our horses out of grade, but I have just had a bit of confidence with him.
“So here he is, one of the favourites for a Group Three race. It was a brilliant run last start coming from a long way back, and the start before that.
“He’s the young star of the three-year-old colts. Let’s see how we go toward a Queensland Derby and obviously the Grand Prix is an important step in that direction.”
