The two top lots on day one of New Zealand Bloodstock’s May Sale have been earmarked to return to the Karaka sale ring in January.
A Written Tycoon weanling colt (lot 190) out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Into the Groove from the draft of Hawera breeder Dan Myers fetched the highest price of the day.
BR Bloodstock secured the colt with a final bid of $170,000 and he will be prepared for next year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale by Hallmark Stud.
“That was our last bid,” Hallmark Stud’s Mark Baker said. “We were staggering, but he is a lovely colt with a wonderful attitude, he never batted an eye lid. He’s very correct and a fabulous colour.
“He’s just a good, strong and correct moving horse. One of the better colts at the Sale.
“The plan is to bring him back here (Karaka) in January as a yearling. If you go over to Australia there will be 60 or 70 Written Tycoon’s whereas here there might only be one or two and he will stand right out.”
Meanwhile, Sydney based ex-pat Kiwi Andrew Williams went to $140,000 to secure lot 146, a weanling colt by Pride of Dubai.
“He’s a great colour and a good-sized horse by a commercial stallion,” Williams said. “He has plenty of scope and should be a lovely yearling come January.
“He will come back through Henley Park’s draft at Karaka and will be given every opportunity, they do a great job.” – NZ Racing Desk.
