Missing from Cambridge trainer Ralph Manning’s winter squad this year is veteran galloper Pump Up The Volume. The 2016 Gr.3 New Zealand Cup (3200m) winner was retired after finishing second to Gentle Tonton in last year’s Listed Taumarunui Gold Cup (2200m).
“He’s home here eating grass and enjoying life,” Manning said. “Mind you he’s well and truly paid for his paddock. He won over $400,000.”
The nine-year-old won eight races and was placed on a further 19 occasions from his 56-start career.
