Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have changed tack with Salsamor in a bid to give the Kiwi-bred son of Tavistock a chance to book a spot in the Gr.1 Australian Derby (2400m).
“We were planning to run him in the Rosehill Guineas, but we think he’d be borderline to get in,” Busuttin said.
Salsamor will therefore run in Saturday’s Gr.3 Sky High Stakes (2000m), a race they won last year with Tavago, at Rosehill.
“He needs to be competitive in that if he’s going to be a chance in the Derby,” Busuttin said.
Salsamor has a win and five placings from his eight starts and was a last-start ninth in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas (1600m).
