Rising Red will return to racing after a long break in Saturday’s Listed March Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained son of Redwood hasn’t been seen since he finished runner-up to Gingernuts in last year’s Gr.1 New Zealand Derby (2400m).
“He did a suspensory in the lead-up to the Rosehill Guineas,” Busuttin said.
“That can mean anywhere between three and nine months out and he wasn’t going to be ready for the spring so we elected to give him a long time off.
“He’s come back nicely, but we’re not expecting much. He hasn’t had a lot of pressure put on him and as long as he gets around safely and pulls up well we’ll be happy.”
