Each year the Auckland City Mission provides almost 14,000 emergency food parcels (equivalent of more than 550,000 meals) for families and individuals who would otherwise go hungry.
Auckland Racing Club CEO, Paul Wilcox, is the kind of person who doesn’t like to see anyone go hungry. He has a mysteriously ’always full’ jar of chocolates on his desk, there’s a continuous array of baked goods and products brought into the lunchroom each week and, as it turns out, he also produces more than 100kg of produce from his garden each year.
It's thus no surprise that when the opportunity to participate in the Auckland City Mission CookOff was presented to him – despite the fact it takes place during the major event that is Auckland Cup Week – he was chomping at the bit to be a part of it.
Held on 7 March 2018, the Auckland City Mission CookOff will see Auckland business leaders and top chefs gather together in a bid to help make a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable Aucklanders through both fundraising and the cooking / hosting of a special meal for 200 deserving families.
The event’s fundraising goal of $250,000 will help provide 3,846 emergency food parcels for families in need.
At a time where Paul’s ‘work life’ will be purely focused on delivering a world-class experience to those fortunate enough to attend during Auckland Cup Week, he could not be prouder to stand up and help support Auckland City Mission for this cause.
Despite the fact he’s actually a trained chef, he will wash, he will cut and he will fry whatever his team captain (a celebrity chef) throws at him.
All he asks of his wider Ellerslie circle is that they consider helping support those who Auckland City Mission live for by helping him reach his personal donation target of $10,000.
