New Zealand-bred Group One performer Antonio Giuseppe will do his future racing in Singapore from the stable of expatriate Kiwi trainer Mark Walker.
The son of Shocking has been acquired by John Galvin’s Fortuna Syndications in a private deal brokered by Danielle Hamlin, of Royal Bloodstock.
“Mark Walker and I had been on the lookout for a strong middle distance type with good Australian form that could be competitive in Singapore’s Triple Crown Series run from late September to mid-November – this horse became available, he checked out perfectly and the deal was struck,” Galvin said.
The six race winner commenced his career in New Zealand where he was successful on debut from the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman stable before being transferred to Waller after two further starts.
He proved a model of consistency with five wins and a further three placings from 16 outings in Sydney, which included a stretch of four wins in succession before finishing runner-up to Sir John Hawkwood (Sir Percy) in the 2016 Gr.1 Metropolitan (2400m) at Royal Randwick.
Antonio Giuseppe is seen as an ideal type to contest prestigious Singapore events, including the Raffles Cup (1600m), Queen Elizabeth II Cup (1800m) and Singapore Gold Cup (2000m) later in the year.
