Mick Price will chase home track Group 1 wins in the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Futurity Stakes but it is unlikely the Caulfield horseman will have a runner in Saturday's Oakleigh Plate (1100m) after confirming promising sprinter Ardrossan has been sent for a spell.
In making his Australian debut last week, the previously unbeaten speedy Kiwi raced on the speed before wilting late behind Super Cash in the Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) first-up and Price said the son of Redoute's Choice was feeling the effects of the run.
"He's definitely spelling," Price said.
"He's sore behind, he laid out and he's too immature to keep going."
Ardrossan's two unbeaten runs in New Zealand were with trainer Stephen Marsh and included a win in the Listed Waikato Equine Centre Stakes (1100m) at Te Rapa in May 2017. - Racing.com
