The well-related Iago will use a better surface at Gisborne on Sunday to further his Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m) preparation.
Rain-affected going at Ellerslie for the Gr.2 Electrolux Avondale Guineas (2100m) has forced Team Rogerson to opt for the Gisborne Refrigeration 2000m.
“It’s too wet at Ellerslie for him, he needs a good track,” Graeme Rogerson said. “I’m very happy with him and Chris Johnson will ride him.”
Out of the Gr.2 Waikato Cup (2400m) winner Passchendaele, Iago has won once from five appearances and finished runner-up against the older horses at Te Rapa last time out.
