Karaka 3YO Classic (1600m) winner Scott Base hasn’t turned a hair since his Ellerslie heroics.
“Everything’s all good with him and he’s been out to the beach and he’s bouncing around,” said Jonno Benner, who trains the Dalghar gelding with Hollie Wynyard.
“He’ll most likely go to the Avondale Guineas and then on to the Derby.”
Benner expects Scott Base to be well-suited to a step up in distance.
“You never really know until you try them over ground, but he switches off in his races so it doesn’t look an issue,” he said.
Scott Base’s Ellerslie success elevated him to equal $6 favouritism with Demonetization for the Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m).
