Taiki Yanagida posted his first New Zealand winner at Matamata on Friday when he guided stable runner Jewel Of Patch to victory.
The 24-year-old, who is apprenticed to Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, combined with the stable runner for a memorable victory in the Ohukia Lodge 1400m.
“It was a good ride from Taiki,” Scott said. “He let the horse finds its feet and rode patiently.
“He’s a hard-working young fellow and hopefully this is the start of a long and successful career.”
Originally from Matsudo in Japan, Yanagida has been with the stable for nearly a year.
