The Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day was cut one race short.
The fixture was abandoned after the running of the penultimate event, the Gr.1 Sistema Railway (1200m) won by Volpe Veloce.
“After viewing the film, it was clear Fully Funded slipped twice,” stipendiary steward John Oatham said. “We couldn’t continue with any certainty for the safety of the riders.”
The day started on a Good 3 surface before heavy rain set in and the track was steadily downgraded to a Slow 8 for the Railway. – NZ Racing Desk.
