The Bruce Wallace and Allan Peard-trained filly One Bakerstreet landed an impressive maiden victory over 1200m at Ruakaka on Tuesday which could see her tackle a black-type feature at Ellerslie next month.
Sitting just behind the speed, One Bakerstreet was far more tractable than her debut performance when third, and scored by a facile four and a-quarter lengths to provide the E Dubai stallion Ego with his second winner.
“She’s got plenty of speed,” Peard said. “She’s a talented filly that is still a bit immature and will be better again as a four-year-old.
“She is the type of filly though that is maturing better in work, so we will keep her going.”
Peard suggested One Bakerstreet would be seen next in a three-year-old sprint at Ellerslie on January 14 before a tilt at black-type at the same venue a fortnight later.
“We’ll target the Mongolian Khan Trophy [Group 3, 1200m] on Karaka Million night,” he said.
One Bakerstreet is raced by a syndicate which includes her breeders Daniel and Elias Nakhle, who raced her Group Two winning sire Ego.
“She’s got a great group of owners,” Peard said.
“We’ve got the two-year-old full-sister at home and she will trial after Christmas. She’s got good ability as well.”
Meanwhile, the stable’s consistent stakes performer Ronchi will step out in the Gr.2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day before being freshened for the Gr.1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa on February 10.
Peard also advised that talented three-year-old Secret Ambition has gone for a short break as he looks towards a start in the Gr. 1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m) in March.
“Secret Ambition was good (when third) last week in the Listed Salver and will have ten days in the paddock now,” he said. “He will resume over a mile before the Avondale Guineas with the Derby as the ultimate aim.” – NZ Racing Desk.
