Post-race comments from a leading jockey have encouraged Swisswatch’s connections that the last-start winner can make an impact over more ground.
The promising son of Swiss Ace was runner-up on debut before he cruised home under Leith Innes over 1400m at Pukekohe.
“He couldn’t have been more impressive and the first thing I asked Leith was would he get a mile and he said no doubt,” trainer Shaune Ritchie said. “The horse improved a lot from his first start and a mile looks no problem, but how much further he goes I don’t know.
“He’ll race next at Ellerslie over Christmas, probably in the three-year-old race on the first day. He’s got a nomination for the Derby, but we’ll have to wait and see about that.”
A brother (Lot 793) to Swisswatch will feature in Westbury Stud’s Book 2 draft at Karaka in 2018.
