Memories of a major Group One boilover have been rekindled by Jessie May.
The well-bred O’Reilly filly overcame a troubled passage and greenness in the straight to break her maiden over 1200m at Hawke’s Bay on Thursday for trainers Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott.
“She did a lot wrong so that’s pretty encouraging going forward,” Scott said.
Jessie May is a daughter of Miss Raggedy Ann, who won the Gr.1 Railway Stakes (1200m) in 2011 at odds of 86-1.
“The mother came right at four and five, the family needs a bit of time. This filly could be a handy sprinter in the autumn,” Scott said.
Jessie May is raced by her breeders Wentwood Grange, who will offer a half-sister (Lot 397) by Hallowed Crown during the Book 1 Sale at Karaka in January.
