Owen Patrick will get an early taste of black type competition when he runs in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial (1500m) at Ellerslie on Saturday.
The Ocean Park colt has made a promising start to his career with minor placings in each of his two runs to date.
“He’s a progressive three-year-old who may find the 1500m too short, he’s looking for further already but we’ll get a line on him,” trainer Shaune Ritchie said.
Owen Patrick is nominated for the Gr.1 Vodafone New Zealand Derby (2400m) and is currently rated a $61 chance.
