A relative of the New Zealand-bred Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner Efficient has continued the good run of form of Mike Moroney and Pam Gerard’s stable.
On The Rocks was their third consecutive Saturday winner when he broke his maiden at Tauranga on Saturday, Resurrect having won on the course three weeks ago and The Boy Wonder delivered at Te Rapa seven days later.
“It was no real surprise as he had been working very well with The Boy Wonder,” Gerard said.
“He’s been scratched recently off wide draws and lightened up when off his tucker for a couple of days, but he goes pretty well this horse.
“Although possibly a bit deceiving, he certainly appreciated stepping up to a mile. He’s still learning and a bit green.”
By Alamosa, On The Rocks is out of an unraced half-sister to Efficient and the Gr.2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) winner Guillotine, formerly resident at Windsor Park Stud.
