A trip across the Tasman in the autumn is very much on the cards for Embellish.
“He’s a top colt and we’d like to take him over for the Australian Guineas if all goes well,” said Jamie Richards, who trains the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) hero with Stephen Autridge.
Unbeaten in three starts this season, Embellish accounted for his stablemate Age Of Fire in Saturday’s classic with the third Te Akau representative Te Akau Shark finishing fourth.
“They’ve all come through the race nicely and trotted up well on Sunday morning,” Richards said.
With an Australian Group One feature on Embellish’s programme, domestic age group targets have been mapped out for Age Of Fire and Te Akau Shark.
“Age Of Fire will go to the Levin Classic at Trentham and then head toward the Derby,” Te Akau principal David Ellis said.
“Te Akau Shark will probably have three weeks in the paddock and then we’ll get him ready for races like the Waikato Guineas and the Avondale Guineas and the New Zealand Derby.”
