A filly from the family of the mighty Makybe Diva made a perfect debut at Otaki.
A trial winner, the Burgundy two-year-old Pinot Grey made all the running in Thursday’s Mills Reef Winery 2YO (1000m) and cruised clear in the run home for rider Cameron Lammas.
Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, she was a $145,000 purchase out of Cambridge Stud’s draft by Te Akau principal David Ellis at Karaka earlier this year.
He suggested Pinot Grey could soon be seen in a stakes race on her way to the Listed Karaka Million (1200m) in January next year.
“To buy a filly in January, have her win like she did within ten months and then prepare for a million dollar race — it doesn’t get much more exciting,” Ellis said.
