New Zealand jockey Corey Parish will be chasing another upset Group One win aboard Boom Time in the Melbourne Cup (3200m) on Tuesday.
The former Cambridge apprentice partnered the gelding to claim the Gr.1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at odds of better than 50-1 and they will again be an outside combination at Flemington, which puzzles co-trainer David Hayes.
“Boom Time's a Caulfield Cup winner with no weight and the horse that ran third (Johannes Vermeer) is one of the favourites,” Hayes said.
“It was a hard Caulfield Cup run and he was strong and sometimes you look past the obvious.”
