Expatriate Kiwi trainer John Sargent is in familiar territory with the New Zealand-bred filly Luvaluva.

He has the daughter of Mastercraftsman in Melbourne for a crack at Saturday’s Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and the Gr.1 VRC Oaks (2500m) five days later.

Sargent prepared Kirramosa to complete the double in 2013 and the following year Thunder Lady won the Wakeful and finished runner-up in the Oaks.

“She is a bit in between both of those horses, Kirramosa was a bit more brilliant whereas Thunder Lady was more of a stayer,” Sargent said. “Luvaluva has an exciting turn of foot and she can stay as well.”

In-form jockey Blake Shinn, who rode four winners on Cox Plate Day, will ride Luvaluva.
