Pukekohe trainer Nigel Tiley has set his sights on the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) with his promising three-year-old Demonetization after his impressive win in the Haunui Farm 3YO (1200m) at Pukekohe on Friday.
Ridden by Jason Waddell, he travelled three-wide the trip before tackling his opposition in the last 150m on the heavy surface.
“He’s got a big future this horse, he’s a quality animal,” Tiley said.
“I was a little worried (about the heavy track), but I know he has got a bit of quality and I think that is what helped him. He’s probably just a bit better than the others.
“He has sort of switched on since his trial at Ruakaka and Jason got off him and said this is a real horse, so we have got a bit to look forward to I think.
“He’s the sort of horse that I’d like to think we can set for the Derby. I know it is very early, but he’s just a quality animal with a great pedigree.”
Demonetization is a graduate of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs where the son of All Too Hard and the Zabeel mare Midnight Special was purchased by Auckland-based Narendra Balia for $220,000.
The Nigel Tiley-trained Demonetization has flagged himself as a possible Derby horse following this impressive win on debut at Pukekohe on 27 Oct 2017.
